The acts and monuments of the church, containing the history and sufferings of the martyrs

This is one of the most famous and heart touching books of all times - containing the Christian history up to almost the year 1600.

On page 48 you can read about the apostles and these touching words from the Apostle Andrew:

  Andrew when coming to the place and seeing the cross prepared, did not change neither countenance nor colour, neither did he fail in his speech, his body fainted not, neither did his mind fail him, but out of the abundance of his heart, his mouth did speak, and a fervent love appeared in his voice, when saying;

Oh, cross most welcome and long looked for, with a willing mind, joyfully and desirously I come to you, being the scholar of Him who hang on you. Because I have always been your lover and have longed to embrace you.

On page 472 you can read the true story of what really happened at the death of Martin Luther, and what he really said, as told by his close friend Melancthon:
Finally, feeling his fatal hour approach, before nine o'clock in the morning, February 18th, he commended himself to God
with this devout prayer.

"My heavenly Father, eternal and merciful God, thou hast manifested unto me thy dear Son, our Lord Jesus Christ ; I have taught him, I have known him, I love him as my life, my health, my redemption ; whom the wicked have persecuted, maligned, and with injury afflicted. Draw my soul to thee."

After this he said, thrice : ' I commend my spirit into thy hands, thou hast redeemed me, O God of truth.
God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish
but have everlasting life.' John 3:16

Having repeated oftentimes his prayers, he was called to God, to whom he so faithfully commended his spirit,
